Li Keqiang Meets with President Ashraf Ghani of Afghanistan

In the afternoon of October 29, 2014, Premier Li Keqiang met with President Ashraf Ghani of Afghanistan at the Great Hall of the People.

Li Keqiang congratulated Ashraf Ghani on his assumption of the new Afghan President. He expressed that yesterday, President Xi Jinping successfully held talks with Mr. President. China is willing to consolidate traditional friendship with the Afghan side, promote practical cooperation, and push the bilateral relations for better development.

Li Keqiang pointed out that any country that aims to realize national prosperity and improve people's livelihood needs a safe, stable and harmonious neighboring environment. China is vigorously implementing its strategy of opening-up to the west. We support Afghanistan's peaceful reconstruction process and are willing to take an active part in building Afghanistan's infrastructure including railway, road, water conservation, and electricity. We stand ready to join efforts with Afghanistan and the international community to promote the economic development and enduring peace and stability in Afghanistan and to maintain regional peace and stability, which also conduces to the continuous deepening of China-Afghanistan relations and cooperation in various fields and better benefits the people in the two countries and the region.

Li Keqiang said that I am looking forward to attending relevant conferences concerning the Istanbul Process on Afghanistan together with Mr. President, which is believed to deliver a clear signal that the international community, especially the regional countries, firmly supports Afghanistan's smooth transition and safe development.

Ashraf Ghani expressed that Afghanistan appreciates China for its help and support and is grateful to China for holding the fourth Foreign Ministerial Conference of the Istanbul Process on Afghanistan. Ashraf Ghani stressed that further deepening Afghanistan-China strategic cooperative partnership serves as the consensus among various parties in Afghanistan and the core principles of the diplomacy of the country. The construction of the Silk Road Economic Belt conduces to the long-term development of regional countries including Afghanistan, in which the Afghan is willing to take an active part. Afghanistan stands ready to expand mutually beneficial cooperation with the Chinese side and support the South Asian countries to enhance cooperation with China. Afghanistan welcomes more Chinese enterprises to participate in the peaceful reconstruction of Afghanistan and will provide safety guarantees and convenience for this.
