Li Keqiang Sends Message of Condolences to Prime Minister Tony Abbott of Australia over Death of Former Prime Minister Gough Whitlam of Australia

On October 26, 2014, Premier Li Keqiang sent message of condolences to Prime Minister Tony Abbott of Australia over the death of former Prime Minister Gough Whitlam of Australia, extending profound condolences over the death of Gough Whitlam and expressed sincere sympathy to his families.

Li Keqiang said in his message of condolences that as an outstanding leader of Australia, Mr. Gough Whitlam had made important contributions to the development of China-Australia relations. During his tenure, China and Australia forged diplomatic relationship, starting a new historic course for the development of bilateral relations. Both the Chinese and Australian people have been benefiting from the strategic decision made by Chinese leaders of the older generation and Mr. Whitlam. The Chinese people are greatly saddened by the loss of such an old friend.

Li Keqiang stressed that the Chinese government is willing to join efforts with the Australian government to continuously push forward the China-Australia relations for new development and to better benefit the two countries and two peoples.
