Yang Jiechi Meets with General Secretary of the Communist Party of Viet Nam Central Committee Nguyen Phu Trong and President Truong Tan Sang of Viet Nam

On October 27, 2014, State Councilor Yang Jiechi met respectively with General Secretary of the Communist Party of Viet Nam (CPV) Central Committee Nguyen Phu Trong and President Truong Tan Sang of Viet Nam in Hanoi.

Yang Jiechi said that the current China-Viet Nam relations are at an important stage of improvement and development. China is comprehensively deepening its reforms and building China into a country governed by law, while Viet Nam is promoting its renovation and opening-up cause. To improve the China-Viet Nam relations is a practical need for both sides to achieve their own development, which is also in line with the common interests of both countries. Both sides should firmly take the correct direction of China-Viet Nam relations, adhere to good-neighborly friendship, and promote mutually beneficial cooperation. Both sides should strengthen high-level exchanges and let it play an important leading role in bilateral relations. Both sides must firmly adhere to the theme of common development and achieve common prosperity through mutually beneficial cooperation. Both sides should actively carry out various forms of non-governmental exchanges to enhance mutual understanding between the two peoples and to consolidate public support for bilateral relations. Both sides should effectively implement the relevant agreements and consensus between the two countries, insist on the resolution of maritime differences through bilateral negotiations, manage and control conflicts, maintain stability, promote cooperation and prevent the maritime issues from obstructing bilateral relations.

Nguyen Phu Trong said that the development of Viet Nam-China comprehensive strategic partnership for cooperation is a long-term and basic strategic principle of the Vietnamese Communist Party and government. Developing relations with China is a top priority of Viet Nam’s foreign policy. The Vietnamese side is willing to maintain high-level exchanges with the Chinese side, to exchange experience in administration and governance of state affairs and to let the Viet Nam-China Steering Committee for Bilateral Cooperation play a role in promoting practical cooperation and strengthening local, youth, and other people-to-people and cultural exchanges. Both sides should properly handle the maritime issues and maintain stable bilateral relations according to the established consensus and agreements.

Truong Tan Sang said that Viet Nam has long attached great importance to the Viet Nam-China relations, and the sound Viet Nam-China relations are beneficial to both countries. The two sides should continue to enhance mutual trust, promote cooperation, and upgrade the Viet Nam-China relations to a new level.
