Li Keqiang Arrives in Rome for Official Visit to Italy

In the afternoon of October 14 local time, Premier Li Keqiang, at the invitation of Prime Minister Matteo Renzi of Italy, arrived at the Leonardo Da Vinci International Airport in Rome by special plane, starting his official visit to Italy.

Senior officials of the Italian government, H.E. Li Ruiyu, Chinese Ambassador to Italy, and others greeted Li Keqiang at the airport.

Li Keqiang expressed that China and Italy are cradles and outstanding representatives of civilizations in the East and West respectively and therefore enjoy congenial advantages and profound foundation for exchanges and cooperation. Since China and Italy established comprehensive strategic partnership, bilateral relations have entered a fast track for development. I expect to exchange in-depth views with Italian leaders on bilateral relations and topics of common interest, so as to inject new vigor into bilateral practical cooperation in all fields and together blueprint the bright future for China-Italy relations.

During the visit, Li Keqiang will meet with President Giorgio Napolitano of Italy and hold talks with Prime Minister Matteo Renzi. The Chinese Premier and the Italian Prime Minister will also jointly meet with people of business circle in both countries and attend the conference of China-Italy innovative week and other activities.

At the invitation of Director-General José Graziano da Silva of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), Li Keqiang will also visit the headquarters of the FAO in Rome and deliver a speech.

At the invitations of President Herman Van Rompuy of the European Council, Prime Minister Matteo Renzi of Italy and President of the European Commission José Manuel Barroso, Li Keqiang will attend the 10th Asia-Europe Meeting (ASEM) Summit and relevant activities in Milan.

Li Keqiang arrived in Rome after successfully concluding his official visit to Russia and holding the 19th regular meeting between Chinese and Russian Prime Ministers. A grand seeing-off ceremony was held at the airport by the Russian side for Li Keqiang when he was leaving Moscow. Senior officials of the Russian government bade him farewells at the airport.

Vice Premiers Liu Yandong and Wang Yang as well as H.E. Li Hui, Chinese Ambassador to Russia, also bade farewells to Li Keqiang at the airport.
