China and Germany Decide to Cooperate on International Pursuit Evasion and Recovery of Illicit Assets

On October 11, 2014, Foreign Minister Wang Yi, when accompanying Premier Li Keqiang to attend the third round of China-Germany intergovernmental consultations, held counterpart consultation between the two Foreign Ministers with Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier of Germany, agreeing that China and Germany will speed up the negotiations on concluding the treaty of judicial assistance in criminal cases and the treaty of extradition between the two countries. These two treaties will provide a legal foundation for China-Germany cooperation on international pursuit evasion and recovery of illicit assets. Both sides stressed that Germany should not be a shelter for the corrupted.

Since 2007, China and Germany have held four rounds of negotiations on concluding the treaty of judicial assistance in criminal cases
