Li Keqiang Meets with President Martin Schulz of the European Parliament
2014/10/12

In the afternoon of October 11 local time, Premier Li Keqiang met in Hamburg with President Martin Schulz of the European Parliament.

Li Keqiang expressed that the western and oriental civilizations, as important foundation for the development of China-Europe relations, have learned from each other on the basis of mutual respect and equal treatment. China always supports the integration process of Europe and is willing to see an united prosperous and strong European Union (EU), which conduces to the world peace, security, cooperation and development.

Li Keqiang pointed out China attaches great importance to developing its relations with the institutions of the EU including the European Parliament and stands ready to work with the European side in enhancing mutual trust, deepening cooperation, expanding common interests and solving differences through dialogues and consultations. I look forward to meeting with President Herman Van Rompuy of the European Council and President Jose Manuel Barroso of European Commission during the upcoming 10th Asia-Europe Meeting (ASEM) Summit in Milan, so as to review the past and map out the future and promote the China-EU comprehensive strategic partnership for new development. I expect the European Parliament to continue to play a positive role in this regard.

Martin Schulz expressed that China is a staunch force in maintaining world peace, stability and development. The relationship of Europe and China, key partners in dealing with the global challenges, has far overweighed the bilateral scope and has an important significance to the world. Both sides should treat and develop bilateral relations from the global perspective and in line with the principles of equality, mutual benefit and mutual respect, and safeguard common interests and address common challenges by bridging the differences and rivalry and conducting frank dialogues and friendly cooperation. The European Parliament stands ready to strengthen communications and exchanges with the Chinese side, and support the signing of bilateral investment agreement at an early date, so as to make positive contributions to the development of Europe-China relations.
