Prime Minister Najib Razak of Malaysia Meets with Yang Jiechi

On October 7 local time, Prime Minister Najib Razak of Malaysia met with State Councilor Yang Jiechi in Kuala Lumpur.

Najib Razak expressed that as comprehensive strategic partners to each other, Malaysia and China enjoy broad areas and great potentials in bilateral cooperation. China's maintenance of vigorous economic growth is of great significance to both Malaysia and Asia. The Malaysian side attaches great importance to the initiatives of building the Maritime Silk Road of the 21st Century and establishing the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank put forward by President Xi Jinping and stands ready to take an active part in and conduct active cooperation to expand and deepen bilateral cooperation in various fields.

Yang Jiechi pointed out that China and Malaysia have scored substantive progresses in the bilateral relations since the establishment of the diplomatic relationship 40 years ago, playing a exemplary and guiding role in the relations between China and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN). We are willing to, together with the Malaysian side, continue maintaining high-level exchanges, enhance strategic mutual trust, and firmly uphold the general direction of cooperation, development and win-win results, so as to continuously advance the bilateral practical cooperation for new achievements.

Yang Jiechi extended welcomes to Najib Razak for his attendance at the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Informal Leadership Meeting to be held in Beijing next month, and expressed that China is ready to join efforts with the Malaysian side to promote the meeting for anticipated results. Najib Razak said that he is looking forward to attending the important meeting in China and the Malaysian side will maintain close communication and coordination with the Chinese side.

Yang Jiechi noted that China supports the Malaysian side to take the rotating presidency of the ASEAN next year and stands ready to work with the Malaysian side to advance China-ASEAN relations for healthy development, to promote the construction of the Maritime Silk Road of the 21st Century together, and to join efforts to advance regional peace, stability and prosperity. A series of meetings for leaders of East Asian countries will be held in Myanmar next month, and China is willing to join efforts with Malaysia and all parties concerned to ensure the meetings a success. Najib Razak expressed that the Malaysian side is willing to continue playing a positive role in boosting the friendly cooperation between the ASEAN and China.

On the same day, Yang Jiechi also held talks with Hishammuddin Hussein, representative of Malaysian government and Defence Minister of Malaysia, held telephone talks with Foreign Minister Anifah Aman who was attending the Uinted Nations (UN) General Assembly in New York, and met with political heavyweights of the Malaysian side including Transport Minister Dato' Seri Liow Tiong Lai, Minister in Prime Minister's Department Datuk Ir.Dr.Wee Ka Siong, Minister for International Trade and Industry Dato' Sri Mustapa bin Mohamed and Prime Minister's Special Envoy to China Tan Sri Dato' Seri Ong Ka Ting, exchanging views with them on advancing bilateral cooperation and reaching broad consensus. Both sides agreed to maintain close dialogues and exchanges at various levels and enhance exchanges between the political parties; to actively promote the growth and facilitation of the trade and investment and expand cooperation in such fields as infrastructure, connectivity and finance; to deepen cooperation in law enforcement and security, and jointly fight against terrorism; to support people-to-people and cultural exchanges; to strengthen communication and coordination in regional affairs, continue to properly handle the South China Sea issue through bilateral friendly consultation and safeguard the peace and stability in the South China Sea together.
