Zhang Gaoli Meets with President François Hollande of France

On September 23 local time, Special Envoy of President Xi Jinping and Vice Premier Zhang Gaoli, who was attending the United Nations (UN) Climate Summit, met with President François Hollande of France at the UN headquarters in New York.

Zhang Gaoli conveyed President Xi Jinping's friendly greetings to Hollande. Zhang Gaoli said that President Xi Jinping made a successful visit to France this March, uplifting the bilateral relations to a new high and initiating a new era of the close and enduring China-France comprehensive strategic partnership. China is willing to work together with France to maintain the heat of high-level mutual visits, enhance strategic mutual trust, deepen practical cooperation, lift the level of joint production and joint research and development, strengthen communication and coordination on international and regional hotspot issues, successfully hold the festive activities in celebration of the 50th anniversary of the establishment of the China-France diplomatic relationship in the latter half of the year, consolidate the foundation of public opinions of the two countries, and constantly enrich the strategic connotation of the China-France relationship.

Zhang Gaoli said that China is willing to work with France to promote the bilateral cooperation in the field of climate change to a new level. China supports France in holding the 2015 United Nations Climate Change Conference in Paris and will join hands with all parties to push the Paris Conference to reach an agreement as scheduled in accordance with the principle of "common but differentiated responsibilities" as well as the principles of openness and transparency, wide participation, consensus through consultations, and contracting parties as the driving force.

Hollande asked Zhang Gaoli to convey his good wishes to President Xi Jinping. He said that he and President Xi Jinping have exchanged visits within two years, powerfully promoting the in-depth development of the France-China relationship. The two countries should further enhance political dialogues, deepen economic and trade cooperation, and push forward people-to-people and cultural exchanges. China has made great efforts to achieve the target of emission reduction, setting a model for the world. France is willing to strengthen the cooperation with China in the field of climate change to promote the sustainable development of respective economy. He hopes that France and China make joint efforts to contribute positively to the success of the Paris Conference.
