Zhang Gaoli Meets with Prime Minister Mark Rutte of the Netherlands

On September 23 local time, when attending the United Nations (UN) Climate Summit, Special Envoy of President Xi Jinping and Vice Premier Zhang Gaoli met at the UN headquarters in New York with Prime Minister Mark Rutte of the Netherlands.

Zhang Gaoli conveyed Premier Li Keqiang's sincere greetings to Rutte. Zhang Gaoli said that President Xi Jinping paid a successful visit to the Netherlands this March and both sides together issued the Joint Declaration on the Establishment of an Open and Pragmatic Partnership for Comprehensive Cooperation, which for the first time clearly defined the nature and orientation and charted the course for future development of bilateral relations. China attaches great importance to developing relations between China and the Netherlands and is willing to join efforts with the Netherlands to comprehensively implement the outcome of President Xi Jinping's visit to the Netherlands, keep frequent high-level exchanges, respect each other's core concerns, further enhance the quality and level of practical cooperation and strengthen coordination and cooperation in Central European affairs, pushing bilateral relations for new and greater development.

Zhang Gaoli pointed out that as a founding member of the European Union (EU), the Netherlands plays a unique role in EU affairs. China and the Netherlands enhancing dialogue in climate change conduces to the sound and stable development of China-EU comprehensive strategic partnership. China stands ready to intensify cooperation with the Netherlands in the field of climate, thus to create a new highlight in China-EU partnership.

Rutte asked Zhang Gaoli to convey his kind greetings to Premier Li Keqiang. Rutte expressed that President Xi Jinping's state visit to the Netherlands this year was a major event in bilateral relations. In the next phase, the two sides will also conduct a series of high-level exchanges. The Netherlands is willing to work with China to strengthen political dialogue, enhance the level of economic and trade cooperation and constantly deepen bilateral relations. The Netherlands appreciates China's ambitious goals and effective measures in addressing climate change, and expects that China will play a leading role in international cooperation addressing climate change and that the two countries will continue to strengthen relevant cooperation.
