President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedow of Turkmenistan Meets with Zhang Gaoli

On August 27, 2014 local time, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedow of Turkmenistan met at Ashgabat with Vice Premier Zhang Gaoli who came to Turkmenistan to chair the 3rd meeting of the China-Turkmenistan Cooperation Committee.

Zhang Gaoli conveyed the warm regards from President Xi Jinping and Premier Li Keqiang to Berdimuhamedow. Zhang Gaoli said that the China-Turkmenistan relations have entered into the “fast lane” of rapid development. During less than one year, President Xi Jinping and Mr. President have successfully paid mutual visits last September and this May, upgrading the China-Turkmenistan relations to a brand new high of strategic partnership and making important strategic deployment for bilateral cooperation in various fields. The main task of my visit this time is to implement the consensus reached by the two heads of state. The Chinese side considers Turkmenistan as a good friend, good partner and good brother. However the international situation changes, the Chinese side is willing to make joint efforts with Turkmenistan to strengthen friendship, promote reciprocity and mutual benefit and deepen cooperation so as to realize common development and prosperity.

Zhang Gaoli said that, cooperation in natural gas between China and Turkmenistan is always the top priority of the bilateral economic cooperation and that it has received personal concern and promotion from the two heads of state. The Chinese side supports Turkmenistan to play a more positive role in the UN and other international arenas. China will conduct close cooperation with Turkmenistan to constantly push ahead with the construction of natural gas pipelines and jointly facilitate safe transportation of international energy. Both sides should further deepen economic and trade cooperation and carry out large projects of mutual benefit and win-win results in connectivity, infrastructure construction, joint sea-and-rail transportation and other fields. Both sides should hold economy day, enterprise and commodity exhibition, economic forum and other activities in each other’s country and constantly enhance exchanges between the bilateral business circles.

Berdimuhamedow asked Zhang Gaoli to convey his best wish to President Xi Jinping and Premier Li Keqiang. He said, the Turkmenistan-China strategic partnership has developed smoothly with the constant enhancement of bilateral political mutual trust, continuous deepening of economic and trade cooperation and increasing expansion of people-to-people and cultural exchanges. Both sides conduct active cooperation on relevant international issues within the UN framework. Turkmenistan sticks to the One China Policy, and supports China’s efforts to safeguard sovereignty and territorial integrity. Energy cooperation is an important aspect of the mutually beneficial cooperation between the two countries and Turkmenistan will work together with the Chinese side to advance the construction of the natural gas pipelines. Bilateral cooperation in transportation, communications and other fields has achieved fruitful results, showing great potential. He believed that the successful holding of the Meeting of the China-Turkmenistan Cooperation Committee will play an important role in promoting the sustainable and comprehensive development of the bilateral relations.
