Yang Jiechi: China-US Relations Should Be Cherished and Safeguarded by Both Sides
2014/07/10

On July 10, 2014, Special Representative of President Xi Jinping and State Councilor Yang Jiechi, during his attendance at the strategic dialogue under the framework of the 6th round of China-US Strategic and Economic Dialogue, said that the positive, coordinative and cooperative and stable China-US relations do not come easily and should be cherished and safeguarded by both sides.

Yang Jiechi pointed out that over the past 35 years since the establishment of diplomatic relationship between China and the US, the bilateral relations have withstood the test of the times and achieved historic development, not only bringing the two peoples tremendous benefits, but also promoting the peace, stability and development in the Asia-Pacific region and the world at large. Achieving the goal of establishing a new model of major country relationship between China and the US requires the two sides to respect each other, treat each other with sincerity, adopt a correct perception of each other's strategic intent and never allow strategic misjudgment to arise; to stick to the overall direction, hold a firm brief, and not be upset or bothered by a certain period or event; to make earnest, down-to-earth and constant joint efforts, so as to lay a foundation for and make contributions to the skyscraper of the new model of major country relationship between China and the US. China-US Strategic and Economic Dialogue should better play its role as "accelerator" for China-US cooperation and "buffer" for bilateral confrontation, and make positive contributions to promoting a sustainable, healthy and stable development of China-US relations.
