Premier Li Keqiang Holds Talks with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina of Bangladesh, Stressing to Deepen China-Bangladesh Comprehensive Cooperative Partnership and to Elevate Cooperation Level Between China and South Asian Nations

In the afternoon of June 9, 2014, Premier Li Keqiang held talks with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina of Bangladesh at the Great Hall of the People.

Li Keqiang said that China and Bangladesh are traditionally friendly neighbors who have respected each other, understood each other and supported each other. Bangladesh is an important cooperative partner of China in South Asia and in the Indian Ocean region. China is ready to take the opportunity of the 40th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relationship between the two nations in the next year to consolidate political mutual trust, deepen mutually beneficial cooperation, intensify bilateral exchanges in various fields, and constantly push forward China-Bangladesh comprehensive cooperative partnership.

Li Keqiang stressed that the stability and development of South Asia can exert huge influence on Asia and even the whole world. China attaches importance to developing relations with countries in South Asia and is dedicated to living in harmony and developing a friendly and cooperative relationship with all countries on the basis of the Five Principles of Peaceful Coexistence, so as to jointly safeguard regional peace, stability and development. Hope that Bangladesh can continue to support China on strengthening cooperation with South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC).

Li Keqiang noted that China and Bangladesh are highly complementary in economy and have great potential for cooperation. China is ready to expand cooperation with Bangladesh in trade and economy, investment, energy, communication and infrastructure construction, and to encourage competent Chinese companies to invest in Bangladesh and establish joint ventures with Bangladeshi companies. China hopes Bangladesh will offer facilities and support in this regard. China is ready to advance bilateral cooperation in science and technology, agriculture, ocean, and disaster prevention and relief, and establish a China-Bangladesh joint research center on rice to conduct experiments, demonstrations and promotions on hybrid rice. Besides, China is ready to expand cooperation in connectivity and jointly conduct cooperation in early harvest projects of the Bangladesh-China-India-Myanmar (BCIM) Economic Corridor, and strives to sign an inter-government agreement among the four countries and pushes forward early results of the economic corridor construction, so as to benefit the approximately 3 billion people in the region. Finally, China is ready to strengthen cooperation with Bangladesh in multilateral areas, safeguard interests of developing countries and work together to address global challenges.

Hasina said that China is a trustworthy friend and partner of Bangladesh. The Bangladeshi side is grateful to the Chinese side for offering long-term help and support. China's development is beneficial to Asia and the whole world. Further deepening the comprehensive cooperative partnership between Bangladesh and China is an important cornerstone of Bangladesh's foreign policy. The Bangladeshi side is willing to enhance high-level mutual visits with the Chinese side, to celebrate together next year's 40th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relationship between the two countries, to deepen cooperation in areas such as economy, trade, infrastructure construction, agriculture, science and technology, ocean, telecommunications and people-to-people and cultural exchanges, and to jointly promote the building of the BCIM economic corridor. The Bangladeshi side welcomes Chinese enterprises to expand investment in Bangladesh and to participate in the infrastructure construction of Bangladesh. The Bangladeshi side will continue to play a positive role in promoting the development of relations between SAARC and China.

Prior to the talks, Li Keqiang held a welcoming ceremony for Hasina at the square outside the East Gate of the Great Hall of the People. Vice Chairperson of the National Committee of the Chinese PeopleĀ“s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) Wang Zhengwei and other officials were also present.

After their talks, Chinese Premier and Bangladeshi Prime Minister together witnessed the signing of documents for cooperation in bilateral economy, technology, energy, infrastructure construction and other areas.
