Li Keqiang Meets with President Gurbanguly Berdymukhamedov of Turkmenistan

In the afternoon of May 13, 2014, Premier Li Keqiang met with President Gurbanguly Berdymukhamedov of Turkmenistan at the Great Hall of the People.

Li Keqiang said that China and Turkmenistan are strategic partners of each other. Yesterday, President Xi Jinping held fruitful talks with Mr. President, and the two sides signed a series of important cooperation documents such as the China-Turkmenistan Friendly Cooperation Agreement. China stands ready to work with Turkmenistan to promote a sound and rapid development of the bilateral strategic partnership.

Li Keqiang pointed out that China and Turkmenistan have jointly built the world's longest natural gas pipeline. I hope that on the basis of managing the existing pipelines well, the construction of new pipelines could be launched so as to expand the natural gas trade scale. The Chinese side is also willing to work with the Turkmen side to open up new fields of economic cooperation and enhance the sustainability of cooperation; to carry out cooperation in such aspects as oil gas processing, energy equipment manufacturing, agricultural and animal husbandry products, communications, high technology and transportation; to form a new pattern with energy cooperation remaining dominant and cooperation in diverse fields advancing side by side. China also stands ready to strengthen exchanges in people-to-people and cultural field with the Turkmen side, so as to constantly enhance the friendship between the two peoples.

Berdymukhamedov said that China is an important strategic partner of Turkmenistan and fruitful achievements have been made in bilateral cooperation. The Turkmen side stands ready to further increase exports of natural gas to China, to step up energy cooperation level between the two countries, to deepen bilateral cooperation in fields such as economy and trade, agriculture, science and technology, transportation and education, so as to enrich the connotation of bilateral relations.
