2014/05/13

In the morning of May 13, 2014, Zhang Dejiang, Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress (NPC), met with President Gurbanguly Berdymukhamedov of Turkmenistan at the Great Hall of the People.

Zhang Dejiang said over the last 22 years since the establishment of diplomatic relationship between China and Turkmenistan, the bilateral relations have enjoyed a sound development. In particular, President Xi Jinping paid a successful visit to Turkmenistan last year, which promoted the bilateral relations to a strategic partnership. President Xi Jinping also reached many important consensuses with Mr. President this time, indicating that China-Turkmenistan relations have entered a new stage of development. At present, strengthening both friendly exchanges and practical cooperation between the NPC of China and the National Assembly of Turkmenistan is particularly important. Both sides should fully implement the important consensuses reached by the two heads of state, actively promote cooperation in economy and trade, energy, security and other fields, enhance people-to-people and cultural exchanges, approve bilateral legal documents in a timely manner, and strengthen legal guarantee in cooperation so as to make greater contributions to promoting the continuous and healthy development of China-Turkmenistan relations as well as to bringing more benefits to peoples of both nations.

Berdymukhamedov said Turkmenistan supports friendly exchanges between the legislative bodies of both countries and is willing to promote legislative exchanges between both sides, thus providing better service to economic and social development of the two countries.
