Li Keqiang Sends Letter of Congratulation to Second Meeting of China-UK High-Level People-to-People Dialogue

On April 23, 2014, the second meeting of the China-UK High-Level People-to-People Dialogue was convened in Beijing. Premier Li Keqiang and Prime Minister David Cameron of the United Kingdom (UK) sent their letters of congratulation to the opening ceremony of the meeting.

Li Keqiang expressed his congratulations on the opening of the meeting. He pointed out that both China and the UK boast a long history and a glorious culture. The bilateral exchanges have long been an important channel for communication and exchanges between the East and the West. In 2012, China and the UK launched the first high-level people-to-people exchange mechanism between China and the EU countries. Both sides have conducted productive exchanges and cooperation in the fields of education, science, technology, culture, sports, media and youth, which has exerted far-reaching and positive influence among the peoples of both countries.

Li Keqiang said, the China-UK relations are currently at a crucial time of inheriting the past and forging ahead into the future. Hope that this meeting will focus on the overall situation of the bilateral relations and the theme of “Sharing the Future through Exchanges and Mutual Learning”, carry out broad and in-depth exchanges and dialogues, for more consensus and cooperation, to make new contributions to a better future of the China-UK relations.

Cameron said in his letter of congratulation that he witnessed the huge potential of the UK-China relations during his visit to China last year. Both sides are indispensable to each other in their relations. The UK is willing to work with China to consolidate people-to-people exchanges which serve as the cornerstone of the bilateral relations, so as to jointly promote the UK-China relations.
