Li Keqiang Meets with Prime Minister Chung Hong-won of ROK

In the afternoon of April 10, 2014, Premier Li Keqiang met in Boao, Hainan Province with the visiting Prime Minister Chung Hong-won of the Republic of Korea (ROK), who was attending the Boao Forum for Asia Annual Conference 2014 in China.

Li Keqiang said, China and ROK have forged a sound relationship of mutual political trust, mutual benefit and win-win results in economy, and continuously deepening people-to-people and cultural exchanges. President Xi Jinping met President Park Geun-hye recently during their attendance at the Nuclear Security Summit in the Netherlands, and you came to attend the Boao Forum for Asia Annual Conference. These high-level exchanges between the two countries have opened a good start for the bilateral relations.

Li Keqiang pointed out, China is willing to strengthen exchanges with the ROK and to deepen cooperation in the fields of economy, trade, education, scien-tech, culture and tourism. At present, the negotiations on China-ROK free trade area (FTA) have entered a crucial stage. It is hoped that both sides could speed up the negotiation process and reach a high-level agreement with overall balanced interests at an early date, so as to benefit the two peoples.

Chung Hong-won said that enjoying geographic proximity and similar cultures, the ROK and China have enjoyed frequent high-level exchanges and continuously deepening bilateral relations. The ROK is willing to work with China to well implement the consensus reached by the state leaders of the two countries, to further strengthen cooperation in various fields, and to push forward the negotiation process of the ROK-China FTA, so as to promote the economic development and prosperity of the two economies.

Both sides also exchanged views on the situation on the Korean Peninsula.

State Councilor Yang Jing was present at the meeting.
