The Agreement on Economic and Technical Cooperation between the Government of The People's Republic of China and the Government of Barbados has been Signed

On July 5th,2019, H.E. Yan Xiusheng, Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to Barbados signed the Agreement on Economic and Technical Cooperation between the Government of the People's Republic of China and the Government of Barbados on behalf of the Government of China with The Hon. Sandra Husbands, Minister in the Ministry of Foreign Trade of Barbados. Ms.Qu Ying, Economic and Commercial Counsellor of the Chinese Embassy, and Mrs. Joyce Bourne, Deputy Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade, attended the signing ceremony.

Ambassador Yan said that the signing of the cooperation agreement is a vivid manifestation of the continuous development of friendly and cooperative relations between China and Barbados. The agricultural projects covered by the agreement will help to improve the level of agricultural technology, enhance the ability of independent development of agriculture of Barbados, deepen exchanges and cooperation between the two countries, promote economic and social development and benefit the local people. The Government of China is willing to work with the Government of Barbados to continuously deepen the pragmatic cooperation between the two countries in the fields of infrastructure and renewable energy under the framework of "Belt and Road Initiative" and "South-South cooperation", to explore ways to strengthen cooperation in areas such as medical and health care, modern agriculture, culture and sports, and work together to bring more tangible benefits to the two countries and people, and promote the joint building of a community with a shared future for mankind.

Minister Husbands said that comprehensive agricultural development and food security are the key to the social and economic development of Barbados. The cooperation agreement signed this time is bound to play an important role in Barbados's economic and social development.
