Ambassador Wang Ke Hosted a Reception in Celebration of the Initialing of the Treaties on Legal Assistance and Extradition between China and Barbados

On the evening of August 6th, H.E. Ms. Wang Ke, Chinese Ambassador to Barbados hosted a reception in celebration of the completion of the negotiation on and initialing of the Treaties on Legal Assistance and Extradition between China and Barbados. Mr. Xu Hong, head of the Chinese Delegation and Director General of the Department of Treaty and Law of Ministry of Foreign Affairs of China, Senator Hon. Maxine McClean, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade, Hon. Ronald Jones, Minister of Education, Hon. Stephen Lashley, Minister of Culture, Mr. Charles Leacock, head of Barbadian Delegation and Director of Public Prosecutions and other members of the delegations of both sides attended the reception.

Ambassador Wang, Mr. Xu and Minister McClean addressed and spoke positively of the negotiation on the two Treaties. They believed that it showed the amity and maturity of the bilateral relationship. It would facilitate the legal cooperation between China and Barbados, and provide firm legal guarantee to the people to people exchanges and economic cooperation between the two countries. The two sides agreed that both countries would speed up the necessary domestic procedures to enable the two Treaties to be officially signed as soon as possible.

The Treaty on Mutual Legal Assistance in Criminal Matters and the Treaty on Extradition were initialed on the afternoon of August 6th, Ambassador Wang Ke and Hon. Adriel Brathwaite, Attorney General attended the ceremony.
