High-level CPC Delegation Visits Barbados

From June 14-16, at the invitation of the Barbadian side, a high-level delegation of the Communist Party of China(CPC)led by Mr. Zhang Gaoli, member of the Political Bureau of CPC Central Committee and head of the CPC Tianjin Municipal Committee, visited Barbados.

During the meeting with Prime Minister Freundel Stuart, Zhang conveyed cordial greetings from General Secretary of the CPC Central Committee, President Hu Jintao and Member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of CPC, Premier Wen Jiabao to Stuart. Zhang said, China-Barbados bilateral relations have been developing smoothly since the establishment of diplomatic ties 35 years ago, with political mutual trust strengthened and economic and trade cooperation expanded. Cultural and people-to-people exchanges between two countries have become more frequent and two countries have also carried out close cooperation on international affairs and in the multilateral arena. The Chinese side appreciate Barbados’ adherence to the one-China principle and regards Barbados as a reliable good friend and good partner.

Stuart thanked China for its long-term selfless assistance to Barbados and hoped the two sides would strengthen exchanges and cooperation in developing renewable energy and achieving sustainable development.

Zhang also met with Governor-General Sir Elliott Belgrave, Senate President Kerryann Ifill, Speaker of the House Michael Carrington and Opposition Leader Owen Arthur and attended the welcome dinner held by Prime Minister Stuart.

Chinese ambassador to Barbados, H.E. Xu Hong, and vice minister of the International Department of Central Committee of CPC, Mr. Chen Fengxiang, attended the above-mentioned activities.
