Chinese Embassy Donates Office and Sports Equipment to Haggatt Hall Resouce Center

      On September 12, 2006, Embassy of the People's Republic of China made a donation of some office and sport equipment to Haggatt Hall Resouces Centre of the St. Michael South East constituency. At the presenting ceremony are: H.E. Mr. Liu Huanxing, Chinese Ambassador to Barbados, the Hon. Hamilton Lashley, Government's Advisor on Poverty and Millennium Development Goals and the Member of Parliament for St. Michael South East, Mr. Harold Britton, Chief Community Development Officer, Mr. Richard Gaskin, Manager of Haggatt Hall Football Club and some residents in the community. The donation includes a lap top computer, two table-tennis boards, some table-tennis rackets and balls, footballs, basketballs.

      During the ceremony, Mr. Britton gave a briefing on the government strategy concerning community development, pointing out that the Barbados Government is pooling considerable amount of resources for the establishment of resources centers island-wide, targeting at offering training courses for each community member on technical skills, namely Information Technology, and meanwhile providing a center for cultural and sport creation. Mr. Lashley in his speech expressed his gratitude to the Chinese Embassy for the generous donation, and initiated exchanges and cooperation between China and Barbados on community development. Ambassador Liu highly appreciated the achievements by the Barbados Government in community building, and said that, concerning community development, the Chinese Government also attaches great importance to providing facilities to community service and is willing to exchange experiences with the Barbadian counterparts in this regard and, through this, further deepen the friendship and cooperation between our two peoples.
