Chinese State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with Jerome Walcott, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade of Barbados

On 21st February, 2019, H.E. Wang Yi, Chinese State Councilor and Foreign Minister met with Senator the Hon. Dr. Jerome Walcott, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade of Barbados who was attending the the Seventh Round of Consultations between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of China and the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of the Caribbean Countries Having Diplomatic Relations with China in Beijing.

Wang Yi said Barbados has always pursued a friendly policy towards China, and the two countries will sign cooperation documents on jointly building the Belt and Road during Dr. Walcott’s visit, which will not only inject new meanings to bilateral friendly relations, but also bring new prospects for their mutually beneficial cooperation. Wang Yi also expressed welcome to the Barbadian government for sending delegations to attend the second Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation in China.

Dr. Walcott said Barbados highly values relations with China, and welcomes and supports the visionary and mutual-beneficial Belt and Road Initiative. Barbados expects to strengthen cooperation with China under the framework of the Belt and Road in areas such as marine transportation and infrastructure connectivity.

Both sides agree to pursue the principle of non-interference in other countries’ internal affairs, and call for a peaceful resolution to Venezuela’s problem through dialogue and consultation.
