The Embassy of the People's Republic of China in Barbados held the Delivery Ceremony for the 2018 Chinese Ambassador's Award

On November 23th, the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in Barbados held the Delivery Ceremony for the 2018 Chinese Ambassador’s Award. Nearly 50 people including Mr. Zou Xi, Charge d’Affaires of the Chinese Embassy in Barbados, the Hon. Sandra Husbands, Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade, Senator Dr. Romel Springer, Parliamentary Secretary in the Ministry of Education, Technological and Vocational Training, Mr. David Bulbulia, representative of the University of the West Indies, Cave Hill Campus and Co-director of the Confucius Institute at the UWI Cave Hill Campus, the 2018 Chinese Ambassador’s Award winners and their family members attended this ceremony.

Mr. Zou presented the 2018 Chinese Ambassador’s Award to five outstanding Chinese language students and expressed sincere thanks to the strong support provided by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Education and the UWI Cave Hill Campus for promoting the learning of Chinese language in Barbados. Mr. Zou highlighted that this year is the 40th anniversary of China’s Reform and Opening-Up Policy. In the future, China will continue to adhere to its fundamental national policy of opening-up which will provide more developing space for those who master Chinese language. Mr. Zou expressed his best wishes and encouraged all the awardees to keep learning Chinese language so that they can become the unofficial ambassadors to promote the friendship between people from China and Barbados and push the development of pragmatic cooperation and China-Barbados relations to a higher level.

Minister Husbands congratulated the 2018 Chinese Ambassador’s Award winners and illustrated that in recent years, the bilateral relations between Barbados and China maintained a sound developing momentum and the Barbados side is highly thankful for China’s strong support and valuable assistance to the development of the education sector of Barbados. Minister Husbands expressed that through Reform and Opening-up, China has made significant achievements, and Chinese language is accelerating its speed to become an international language. The Barbados Labour Party government attaches great importance to bilingual education and is willing to see and provide necessary assistance for the further promotion of Chinese language learning in Barbados.

Some of the 2018 Chinese Ambassador’s Winners made a Chinese cultural showcase at the ceremony.
