The Ambassador of the People's Republic of China to Barbados attended the Handing-over Ceremony for Military Aid and paid a courtesy call to the Chief of Staff of the Barbados Defense Force


On February 26th, H.E. Yan Xiusheng, the Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to Barbados attended the handing-over ceremony for military aid provided by the Chinese government to the Barbadian government and paid a courtesy call to Lieutenant Colonel Glyne Grannum, Chief of Staff of the Barbados Defense Force. Mr. Zou Xi, Political Counsellor of the Chinese Embassy in Barbados also attended these events.

At the ceremony, H.E. Yan Xiusheng and Lieutenant Colonel Glyne Grannum signed the handing-over certificate and delivered addresses. Ambassador Yan expressed that this military aid is the largest one that China ever provided to the Barbadian side. It will definitely enhance the security capacity of the Barbados Defense Force so as to safeguard the development of all areas of Barbados. China is willing to continue providing as much help for the development of Barbados. Ambassador Yan pointed out that in recent years, much progress has been made in the military to military ties between China and Barbados and the two armies should expand the ways and contents of the military cooperation so as to push our friendly bilateral relations to a higher level.

Lieutenant Colonel Glyne Grannum welcomed Ambassador Yan to assume office in Barbados and spoke highly of the great achievements that have been made in the cooperation of all areas between China and Barbados. Lieutenant Colonel Glyne Grannum sincerely thanked the continuous support from the Chinese government and the Peoples’ Liberation Army of China for the development of Barbados’ national defense and security. The Barbados Defense Force will take full advantage of this military aid to improve the ability of patrolling the coast, cracking down drug smuggling as well as disaster relief and disaster mitigation.
