The Ambassador of the People's Republic of China to Barbados paid a courtesy call to the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade of Barbados

On February 9th, the Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to Barbados, H.E. YAN Xiusheng paid a courtesy call to the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade of Barbados, Senator the Hon. Maxine McClean. The Political Counsellor of the Chinese Embassy, Mr. ZOU Xi, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade of Barbados, Mrs. Cecile Humphrey and the Barbados Ambassador-designate to China attended this meeting.

Ambassador YAN expressed the cordial greetings from H.E. WANG Yi, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of China, to the Minister McClean and expressed his appreciation to the Barbadian government for always upholding the One China Policy. Ambassador YAN highlighted that under the principles of mutual respect, equality, friendly cooperation and joint development, both the Chinese and Barbadian governments will continue deepening the pragmatic cooperation so as to benefit to the two countries and two peoples .

Ambassador YAN briefly introduced the 19th National Congress of the Communist Party of China and mentioned that Chinese foreign policy in the New Era is intended to build a new type of international relations and a community of shared future for mankind.

Ambassador YAN assured that as the new Chinese Ambassador to Barbados, he is willing to work closely with Minister McClean and with the Barbadian government to continuously deepen the friendly communication and exchanges in all areas between the China and Barbados especially to push the two countries in building cooperation under the framework of Belt and Road Initiative in order to accomplish the continuous upgrading and innovative development of China-Barbados relations.

Minister McClean conveyed her greetings to the Foreign Minister of China H.E. WANG Yi through Ambassador YAN and thanked the Chinese government for the strong support and generous contributions for the development of all sectors of the Barbadian economy and society. Minister McClean said that in recent years, Barbados and China has kept its healthy, stable and continuous development momentum, last month in particular, she led the Barbadian delegation to attend the Second Ministerial Meeting for the China-CELAC Forum in Chile which opened a new chapter for Barbados-China pragmatic cooperation. The Barbadian side stands ready to further deepen the exchange and communication in areas such as economy and trade, finance, culture, education and climate change with Chinese side. Barbados also wishes to deepen the cooperation under the framework of the Belt and Road Initiative to promote more achievements in the development of the friendly relationship between the two countries.

Ambassador YAN and Minister McClean also exchanged their views on other matters of mutual concerns.

At the end of the courtesy call, Ambassador YAN presented Minister McClean with the book “The Governance of China Volume 2.”
