H.E. Ambassador Wang Ke Held Gala Performance in Celebration of the 66th Anniversary of the Founding of the People's Republic of China

On the evening of September 22, a mood of happiness and friendship swept through the packed Garfield Sobers Gymnasium which is constructed utilizing China Aid. Here, H. E. Ms. Wang Ke, the Chinese Ambassador to Barbados, hosted a Gala Performance to celebrate the 66th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China. As part of Chinese Ministry of Culture’s 2015 “China Contemporanea” Chinese culture exhibition program, Anhui Cultural Exchange Delegation gave a performance at the event.

 

H.E. Sir Elliott Belgrave, Governor-General of Barbados, Hon. Richard Sealy, the Acting Prime Minister, Hon. Sir Marston Gibson, Chief Justice and close to 10 Cabinet Ministers, as well as Mr. Wu Xing, Vice Secretary-General of Anhui Provincial Government of China and the Head of the Anhui Cultural Exchange Delegation, representatives from the diplomatic corps, staff of the Chinese companies in Barbados, local Chinese community are among 3000 plus guests who attended the performance.

In her remarks, Ambassador Wang reflected on the remarkable achievement made in China’s economic and social development after its founding 66 years ago, especially after the adoption of reform and opening up policy, as well as its positive contributions to the world peace and development. Ambassador Wang used three key phrases “new-normal”, “confidence” and “benefiting the world” to explain the overall positive economic situation in China. Ambassador Wang further stressed that China has the capability of maintaining a medium-high rate of growth, China is committed to a win-win strategy of opening up and that Chinese economy growth will continue to provide the world, including countries in Latin America and the Caribbean more market opportunity, growth opportunity, investment opportunity and cooperation opportunity.

Ambassador Wang also reflected on the fruitful cooperation between China and Barbados in recent years in the areas of high-level visits, economic and trade investment, climate change and people to people exchange.

Ambassador Wang expressed the willingness of the Chinese side to work together with the Barbadian side to enhance the traditional friendship, to deepen the practical cooperation between the two countries and to raise the bilateral relations to a new height. She thanked the Barbados’ Ministry of Culture and Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade, National Culture Foundation and the Gymnasium for their full support of this gala performance.

Acting Prime Minister Sealy congratulated the 66h anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China on behalf of the Barbadian government and people. He spoke highly of the long-time friendship between Barbados and China, as well as the cooperation in the fields of economic and trade, education, culture and agriculture. He also thanked the Chinese side for the help and support provided to the Barbadian side for its economic and social development. Acting Prime Minister Sealy pointed out that the Gala Performance presented the Barbadian people an opportunity to share the happiness with the Chinese people, to celebrate Barbados-China friendship and that the Barbadian government is committed to deepening the bilateral ties and enhancing the friendship between the two peoples.

Artists from Anhui Cultural Exchange Delegation put on an art show characterised by Chinese ethnic and regional features. Various types of performance including acrobatics, magic, tai-chi, flower-drum lantern,Huangmei Opera facsinated the audience and won their applauses and cheers.
