Counselor Xie expressed in his remarks that the provision of 1000 inverter air conditioners and 25000 LED tubes to the Barbadian Government is an important measure of supporting Small Island Countries to address Climate Change through the South-South Cooperation Fund of China. He hopes the two sides to further promote bilateral cooperation in the field of climate change to benefit the two countries.

In her remarks, Ambassador Wang indicated that handing over these equipment is not only a big step forward of the collaboration between the two countries in the area of addressing Climate Change, but also another proof of the enhancement of friendly cooperation between China and Barbados. Currently, addressing Climate Change has become a global challenge confronted by all the countries in the world. China and Barbados have continued to focus on developing Green Economy and maintaining sustainable development, and the bilateral cooperation in this specific area will have more opportunities and bear more fruits.

Minister Boyce thanked the generous donation from the Chinese Government, and announced that these equipment would be distributed to the government and public institutions such as hospitals, police stations, post offices, schools and Fire Stations to replace the existing high energy consumption tubes and air conditioners. He believed that this donation would make contribution to the retrofitting programme utilizing energy efficient and environmentally friendly equipment across the Barbadian Government, and would help the country to achieve its goal of “a greener island”.

After the Hand-Over Ceremony, Ambassador Wang and the Chinese delegation from NDRC had an in-depth exchange of views with Energy Division, Ministry of Environment and other relevant departments of Barbados on the using of the equipment, as well as the capacity building training programs.
